About
Dr. Joe W. Ryan Dr.
Ryan with his wife, Melissa, and three children, Lilli, Will and Maddie.
Who
am I? Hello my name is Dr. Joe W. Ryan. Im very excited to be
back in the Mt. Horeb area. I have lived in Mt. Horeb (Mt. Vernon) my entire life
with the only exceptions being going to college at Whitewater and Chiropractic
College at Palmer in Davenport IA. Currently my wife Melissa and our two children
live right in town and couldnt think of a better place to raise our family. My
mission Im very excited to be opening the new chiropractic office
in town with my partner Dr. Brenda Trudell. I think and believe that we have a
lot to offer in Mt. Horeb and the surrounding area. One of the key things that
I would like people to realize and understand is the fact that chiropractic is
for people of all ages. Chiropractic care should begin at birth and continue throughout
your life. Many medical books state that birth is the most traumatic and stressful
thing your body will endure in a lifetime. The research shows that many of the
problems neck pain, back pain, and many other aches and pains that show up later
in life can be tied to birth it just depends from person to person when the symptoms
actually surface. So what I ask you is why wait? Begin chiropractic as soon as
possible to keep your body functioning at optimal health. Once your body starts
operation like it should and you feel more energy and better all around is when
you realize that chiropractic has helped get your body into a wellness state.
Wellness checks as needed are great for so many health benefits I cant even
explain, but just think of a wellness check as anoil change for your
car it is important to get your oil changed and it is equally if not more important
to get your oil changed in your own body. After becoming a patient and getting
to a wellness state you will realize that chiropractic isnt somebody you
go to just for pain but it helps prevent and build a better healthier lifestyle.
Wellness patients are a special elite group that understands the benefits of chiropractic
as a whole and this is what I want to bring to the community. I want to give back
to the community that helped me grow into the person I am today by helping as
many patients to a better healthier life. Chiropractic can help you in so many
ways let it become part of your life and see how it will change your life. My
experiences To this point in my young career chiropractic has been very
positive and very exciting. I have dealt with many normal aches and pains of everyday
life to some very serious and painful problems. Some of the most exciting work
I have done so far is on my wife, sister and friends while they were pregnant.
All have said that there pregnancy was much more tolerable and enjoyable once
they got under my care. And of course with pregnancy comes birth, Ive had
the privilege with two of my own children to be able to work on both of them beginning
in the first hour of life. This has been some of the most rewarding work I have
done thus far and continues to be as I now see a couple of dozen children through
family and friends. I feel that I have a good amount of experience with children
from birth to all ages and will be able to offer a lot to patients of all ages
and lifestyles. How I got
into Chiropractic I was a freshman in high school here in Mt. Horeb
and started to have really bad low back problems. I was going to a chiropractor
in Madison and it didnt seem to be getting any better. Finally, after about
the 30 visit my dad asked the doctor when I was going to start seeing some improvement.
The doctor stated that he thought my case was going to need some surgical attention.
This is when my dad said enough is enough were going to try something else. My
dad is a mail man in Verona and he was talking to somebody on his route about
what this chiropractor said to his then 15 year old son. The guy said, Rick
(my dad) what is wrong with you the Gonstead Clinic is right in your town, here
is $100.00 bill take your son there if they dont fix him pay for the appointment
if they do give it back. We went to the Gonstead Clinic the next day and
that is when my life changed forever. I got to the clinic the next day and had
an adjustment with Dr. Doug Cox and he told me to come back the day after next.
I still remember later that afternoon feeling better already. So following the
doctors order I went back two days later and got adjusted again. After that
appointment Dr. Cox said, That should be good come back in a couple of weeks
to make sure everything is good. I left the office and later all the pain
was gone and never really had to go back for that back problem. (I do go in for
my maintenance check once a month!!) This is what made me realize there are chiropractors
and there are CHIROPRACTORS and I certainly knew at that point which one I wanted
to be! I think this was a very important lesson to me that
I will instill in my practice here in Mt. Horeb. My goal is to get all patients
better and in the state of wellness care as soon as reasonably possible. I have
all the confidence that if Im not getting the results I expect I will refer
patients to some else to see what they think. My first concern is my patients
well being and I wont change what I do or believe in to compromise that.
Ive been down the other roads and heard way too many stories of other people
that have had the same problem and with me that wont happen. I take pride
in getting people better as fast as possible and will do whatever it takes to
accomplish this. Im here to help you and your family, so I hope you will
give me the opportunity to do so. My
personal story I was in my last trimester at Chiropractic College and
my wife and I were expecting our first child. We went to the hospital and it was
finally time for the birth of our baby. The birth proved to be long and challenging
and through this trauma my daughter was born with meconium, which is during a
stressful labor a newborn ends up swallowing there own feces. Finally she was
born and everything was great except for the meconium problem, which was causing
my daughters fever to escalate. The nurse began coming in every half an hour to
check her temperature. It finally got to 103.9 degrees and the nurse said she
would be back again in 30 minutes and if it was any higher they were calling in
the doctor and starting an IV with antibiotics. The nurse then left I looked at
my wife and said Enough is enough Im going to see if she needs to
be adjusted. It turns out she did her atlas was out, this bone the atlas
is sits at the bottom of your skull which all the nerves that come out of your
brain and control all of your body functions must run through. I remember getting
ready to adjust her like it was yesterday and my wife looked at me and said, Dont
hurt her. I looked at her with a stern look of FAKE confidence
and said I wont. I adjusted her and 25 minutes later the nurse came into
the room again. She took the temp. and it was 99.9 degrees the nurse looked at
us and said, I have no clue how the fever broke that much in a little under
a half an hour I simply said me neither. As the nurse was again leaving
the room she said, See you in 30 minutes to check it again. Again
she came back but this time there was no fever it was completely normal. The nurse
looked at us a little confused and said, Well I guess we dont have
to worry about that any more then she left. My wife looked at me and started
to cry and said, Honey you did it, it is a miracle. I looked at her
and said, Its not a miracle its chiropractic and the power of your
own body to heal itself. My daughter left that hospital healthy as a horse,
thank you chiropractic. This story is very dear to my heart and still makes me
cry and I will never ever forget or lose sight of the power of chiropractic!! New
