We will be having an Open House on Sat, Feb 28th from 1-5 PM with complimentary samples of our services! Read below for more details.
We are also having a month long drawing to show our appreciation. During the month of February, every time you come to our office for any of our services, you can register for a chance to win a $75 Chamber gift certificate! You may also register at the open house. Another way for us to say thank you for the last two years!
February is National Heart Health Month, and we have many services at our office that can help keep your ticker happy without the use of drugs! Chiropractic keeps the nerves that supply your cardiovascular system functioning properly, acupuncture balances hormones & the nervous system and reduces stress, reiki is also great for stress reduction, massage stimulates proper bloodflow, and proper nutrition keeps your heart and arteries healthy and clean. Before you take a prescription drug for heart and blood pressure problems, look into some healthier alternatives first!
We have a great special on gift certificates fot massage this month! Treat your sweetheart to a relaxing massage for Valentine's Day! Gift certificates are $10 off for a one hour or longer massage!
We hope you enjoy this month's issue, and as always, feel free to pass it along to anyone who may enjoy it as well!

February: Valentine's Day and National Heart Month!!
February is known for Valentine's Day (the day of the heart), and is also National Heart Month. We are all reminded of Valentines Day by yummy chocolate. We'll probably see on the news numerous studies claiming that consuming dark chocolate may cut heart disease. You may notice that studies such as these tend to appear in the news right about the time chocolate sales are picking up. That's fine, pick up some chocolate for your chiropractor and remind them that studies show it's good for the heart!
Chiropractic is also good for the heart, by way of the nervous system, and the removal of spinal stress. When we talk about the heart most people think about blood, and the job of the heart is to pump blood throughout the body. But what about the connection between the brain and the heart? We don't hear as much about that.
Like every organ in the body, the heart is controlled by the nervous system. There is a nerve that runs from the lower part of your brain (the brainstem) down to your heart. This is the vagus nerve (cranial nerve X). It is the only cranial nerve from your brain that extends down through your neck into your abdominal region. You certainly don't want to have spinal stress anywhere in your neck as it just doesn't feel good. That annoying and tender bump you can feel when you press your thumb into the side of your neck just below your ears is a fairly good sign you're suffering from spinal stress. Who wants to choke off the flow of life energy that your vagus nerve is supplying to your heart and stomach? That's just not a good idea.

Blood Pressure Q & A |
|

Can Acupuncture and Chinese medicine help high blood pressure?
Yes, Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help decrease high blood pressure. High blood pressure means the blood pressure is elevated above the normal range of 120/80.
It may be caused by long term stress, insomnia, family history or other diseases such as atherosclerosis. If the blood pressure is too high or remains high for a long period of time, it may cause complications such as heart attack, stroke, kidney failure or even early death.
Compared to Western medicine, Chinese medicine & Acupuncture cause less side effects and offers very positive results. Acupuncture treatments harmonize the central nervous system, endocrine (hormones) system, and regulate and balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems in order to lower the blood pressure. After a period of treatment people will feel calm, relaxed, and sleep better.
Please feel free to contact Ronghua if you have any additional questions.
Did you know?!
Getting a massage decreases blood pressure and brings forth balance in the body. A personal example of mine is when I was fulfilling my final massage hours, my boss at the time took his blood pressure before and after the massage...it had decreased 14 points for him!
Please feel free to contact Shelley with any additional questions about massage.

| Two Year Anniversary Open House! |
|

Schedule of Events for the Open House on Saturday, February 28th, 1-5 PM
Dr. Brenda Trudell-Spinal Screenings & Nutritional Consult Spinal screenings are a non-invasive way of detecting imbalances in the spine. Patients will be fully clothed and seated comfortably in a chair. Dr. Trudell will be using a handheld scanning device called Myovision and running it up your spine from the upper back to the top of the neck. The device will be connected to a computer, and your results will be determined immediately. The Myovision will detect heat imbalances in your spine from side to side, which often indicate areas of misalignment, irritation or injury. Feel free to take a copy of your results with you when you leave! Dr. Trudell will also be doing nutritional screenings as well. Feel free to discuss any nutritional questions with her.
Dr. Joe Ryan-Foot Scans
A balanced body is a happier body! A body that's out of balance can be causing you pain anywhere from your feet all the way up to your neck. Custom-made Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers are specifically made for your feet and for your unique postural condition. A quick computerized scan of your feet can tell a great deal of information to determine the type of care that is needed for you. For instance, a person with chronic low back pain could have foot problems as well. If you have flat feet, this can turn your knee in and pull your hip out, causing extra stress on your low back. Dr. Ryan will be available to scan your feet and interpret the results for you. This only takes about five minutes and many of my patients can tell you it can change your life! Dr. Ronghua Jiang-Group Ear Acupuncture
Auricular (ear) acupuncture works well for many conditions, including stress reduction, quitting smoking, headaches, depression and anxiety. For the group ear acupuncture session, guests will be seated comfortably in chairs and fully clothed. Very tiny needles will be inserted into the ears and hands in specific acupuncture points. More than one person can participate at a time, and the group dynamic often increases the energy in the room. Guests can relax and enjoy the 20-25 minute treatment. For more info on quitting smoking during the Great American Smokeout, please ask Ronghua. Amy Mertz-Chair Massages
Amy Mertz, CMT, will be doing 10-minute chair massages targeting the head, neck, arms and back. If you have never had a massage before, a chair massage is a good introduction because you remain fully clothed and are sitting upright on a specially designed chair. Chair massage increases blood circulation and stimulates the muscles while promoting deep relaxation. David Palmer, co-developer of the first massage chair and founder of the TouchPro Institute in San Francisco, has attributed many office-related physical symptoms to decreased circulation. When muscles tighten due to stress, and a person spends most of the day confined to a desk, blood and lymph flow throughout the body is disrupted. Mental fogginess, fatigue and repetitive stress injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome may occur. Chair massage is often done in office settings because of its many benefits, but anyone -- from youth to seniors -- can reap the rewards of chair massage. Rita Stanton-Reiki Sessions & Paraffin Hand Treatments
Chakras are vortices through which energy flows both in and out of the body. When developed, they rotate like a turning wheel. Most literature on chakras discusses seven main chakras, but we actually have hundreds, located all over the body. Each acupressure and acupuncture point is an energy vortex and therefore a chakra. The energy which powers these vortices comes from a number of sources. The fourth chakra is the heart chakra, located at the heart, middle of the sternum. How do we balance our chakras? February 28 1-5PM, meet with Rita Stanton, RN CHTSM, Reiki Master and have your energy balanced. Shelley Ferguson-Stress Reduction Tips
Stress Reduction you can do at home! Learn a few techniques to help you deal with stress! These are easy techniques you can do anytime and best of all, on your own and at no cost to you. Stress reduction is good for your heart and can lower your blood pressure, so you don't want to miss out on these tips!
**When not in a session, each of the practitioners will be available for questions, comments and other information. Feel free to enjoy refreshments and other activities while waiting for your session. |

Essential Oil of the Month:
Eucalyptus globulus
Rita Stanton, RN
The part of the plant used is the fresh leaves. The plant originates in Australia and Brazil. There are several different kinds of Eucalyptus so make sure you have the correct one. The active constituents are different in each one. The medical properties include: Expectorant, mucolytic, antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-aging.
Uses: Respiratory/sinus infections, decongestant, rheumatism/arthritis.
Fragrant Influence: It promotes health, well-being, purification, and healing.
Application: Dilute 1 part EO and 1 part VO; 1) Apply 2-4 drops on each location,
2) chakras/vitaflex points,
3) directly inhale, 4) diffuse. It can also be used as a supplement.
It has been used for autism and ADD, diffusion 15 minutes 4-6 times daily or direct, 4-6 times daily.
VO stands for vegetable oil or carrier oil, EO stands for Essential Oil
Supplement of the Month:
February is National Heart Month, and anyone concerned with heart health should be taking a high quality fish oil supplement every day. Americans generally have an imbalance of omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids in their diets. Too much 6 and not enough 3 can promote inflammation and lead to cardiovascualr problems and damage to your heart and arteries. Taking a fish oil supplement can help restore that balance and decrease inflammation. Don't be fooled though, not all fish oils are created equal. Speak to Dr. Trudell or Dr. Ryan to help you find a high quality fish oil.
