Flexion
Distraction Flexion-Distraction
is a gentle, non-force adjusting procedure that works with the body's natural
design to aid it in healing, especially for disc problems. Dr. Cox developed a
special table for performing the technique. This table is used to apply a distraction
spinal manipulation adjustment. Flexion/distraction manipulation decompresses
the disc by applying a gentle stretch or traction to the lower spine, usually
in a series of repetitive slow movements without quick movements or thrusts. While
the spine is being stretched, it allows water and other nutrients to enter the
dehydrated disc to help with repair. The procedure is often used for people with
disc problems, but can also be used for non-disc causes of low back pain, such
as facet syndrome, spondylolisthesis, sprain/strain, scoliosis, transitional vertebra,
sacroiliac subluxation, and stenosis. Studies show that more than two-thirds of
patients report excellent to good improvement with a typical rehabilitation program
of 12 treatments. Back
